How To Design An Effective Flyer That SellsSo you're thinking about using flyers to promote your business? Great idea! Flyers are a wonderful way to promote your business or event. By creating effective flyers you're bound to attract the kind of customers your business or event needs. But how do you create an effective and professional looking flyer? Good question. Well you're in luck. Here are some great ideas to keep in mind while designing your flyer. The Message: First, what are you trying to convey? What is the message that you're trying to get out into the world? Are you having a sale or promotion? Maybe you want to advertise your new business or promote your event. Decide on the best and the most effective way you want your message to come across. When advertising a sale, make it the center of attention. A flyer that states the business name in giant letters rather than in small print happens to mention a sale might not be as effective as using the sale as the center of attention. If you're a restaurant advertising a grand opening, "GRAND OPENING" should be the center of attention along with the type of food you specialize in. For events, your venue should come first followed by your event's name and then performance dates. Who are you: What kind of business are you? For events, are you a band, a theater group or something else? After people see what is your message and what your advertising, you need to know who and what you are. Include your business information such as your business name, phone number, web and email address or street address depending on whether you're an online store or a brick and mortar. Make the information easy to read and simple to find. People won't search a flyer for the information they need. If it's not easy to find, into the trash goes your flyer. Design: When deciding how to design your flyer keep in mind: the more simplified the better. Your customer's eyes can only see so much on one piece of paper. Cluttering every inch of space makes it hard for your customers to focus. Just because you have photos or clip art of every product that's on sale doesn't mean you need to list everything. List pictures of some of your top-selling or most wanted items and create small call-outs to other items. Say for instance you have ten televisions on sale, which one of those televisions is the best deal, or the one you have in stock? Use space on your flyer for one special item then list the others below. This also applies to event flyers. Keep your clip art and photos pertaining to your event to a minimum. If you're putting on a show of "Romeo and Juliet" you don't need a dozen photos of all your cast. One simple picture of Juliet on her balcony would suffice. For bands, typically your band logo, or even your name does the job. Adding a bunch of skulls or flowers detracts from your flyers appeal. Best advice of all: get a second option. When you're finished designing your flyer have a second set of eyes look it over for you. Sometimes when you're too close to a project you can miss little things. Misspelled words or using the wrong photos when advertising can cause you a lot of head aches. What if you accidentally typed 10.00 when you meant to type 100.00? You might end up with a lot of customers in your store, yes, but they won't be very happy. Having someone do a quick review can save you the hassle of having to reprint. Keep these simple tips in mind and your flyers will look great. |
