What to Avoid When Printing a FlyerAre you looking for a great way to advertise your business? Thinking that flyers might just do the trick to gain the attention you want? Good, your on the right track. Flyers are a wonderful way to advertise your business without costing you a small fortune. Here are some great tips to keep in mind when designing your own flyers. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor gloom of night... Choosing the right paper is essential when creating your flyers. Depending on where you will be posting your flyers you may end up with a catastrophe. One good wind or rain storm can cause havoc on flyers printed on simple paper. If the main goal is to use your flyers outside, such as in advertising a house, you might want to invest in some good weather resistant containers. If you are using flyers to post on other outside medium, i.e., poles, windows or vehicles, you may consider laminating your pages. Almost all printing houses offer a variety of papers designed to best suit your needs and many also offer a protective UV coating to keep your flyers from fading in the sun. A picture says a thousand words... Pictures are a great way to add a little pizazz to your flyers. Deciding on the right pictures though is a decision one can't take lightly. You want to use pictures, clip art or photos that are not grainy, aren't pixilated or overstretched. Use pictures that are the highest quality possible to avoid any issues with blurred or inferior colors. The pictures you use say a lot about your flyer so only use the best. Call me... Okay, you've managed to gain your customers attention. Now what? They'll want to either visit your store, attend your venue, call you or go to your website. No matter how great your flyer looks it's nothing if you forget to add all the pertinent information about how to reach you. What was that again? Your customers can only understand what's written on your flyer. It's absolutely imperative that your advertising copy is clearly written and that all words are correctly spelled. Sentences such as: coupons are (accepted or excepted). This may cause confusion to make sure to use the correct wording also. QUIET! Headlines are a great way to gain attention. Too much of a headline though makes it look like you're page is shouting. Design your flyer with "an inside voice" in mind. Use no more than a few words for your headline. GRAND OPENING, SALE, END OF THE YEAR EVENT, and so on are good examples of headlines. The colors... This isn't the 1960's. Using too many crazy colors just isn't groovy anymore. Keep with a simple color scheme. Don't underestimate the importance of a little white space. You can use open space to help your customers focus on your core message, not to mention reduce eye-strain. Consider utilizing bolding titles instead of using a million colors. And avoid using colored text on too closely matched backgrounds. Light gray text on a dark gray background may look great in theory but it's hard to differentiate the colors when reading. Details, details, details... Okay, your flyer is finished and looks wonderful. Or does it? When you're to close to your project you might miss little things. Have a coworker or friend look over your flyer for any mistakes, or ask for opinions for colors or content. Once you're completely satisfied with your flyers it's off to the printers. Of course, you could print them on your personal printer, but it's always better to have a professional printer print your flyers. Depending on how many flyers you need printed, you just might save money having a professional print them for you. Keep in mind the cost of printer ink, paper, your time, wear on your equipment and decide the best way to print. |
