FAQs About Every Door Direct Mail

EDDM empowers small businesses and organizations with an affordable direct marketing tool to bring in new business and increase brand awareness.

What is EDDM?

EDDM stands for Every Door Direct Mail. EDDM is an affordable direct marketing service provided by the USPS. Any business can take advantage of this powerful tool, especially small stores and restaurants.

What's the Difference Between EDDM and Direct Mail?

Traditional direct mail campaigns require a premade mailing list. Businesses usually make a list using their customer data bases or purchase addresses from a third party provider, such as a printing company. With Every Door Direct Mail, you don't need to buy a list anymore. Your mailer will go to all of the addresses in the postal carrier route(s) of your choosing. This saves you the time of finding a list that fits your target market as well as the money you'd use to purchase the information.

Do I Need a Permit?

No, EDDM Retail users do not need to purchase a permit. Permits are still required for large scale campaigns, such as city wide areas, and for mailing service providers i.e. PrintFirm.com.

How Do I Get Started?

The first step would be to register for a USPS Business Gateaway account.  If you've used USPS.com before for advertising purposes, you may already have an account. To register or login, please click here.

Do I Need a Mailing List?

No, you do not need specific addresses to use EDDM. Every Door literally means that your mailer will be sent to each residence or business in your target area.

How Do I Find The Right Area?

USPS offers a free online tool to help you plan your campaign. You can find areas by address, city, state, zip code, street name, or intersection. You may also select up to a 5 mile radius around your location.

Can I Target By More Than Just Location?

Yes! The USPS allows you to find the people who are most likely to purchase your products and services. You can search by age, household income, and other important factors to improve your ROI.

Do I Need to Print Any Forms?

You will need to print 1 form for every bundle you want to ship. Mailers are bundled in groups of 50 or 100; if you have 200 mailers, you would need 4 forms for 4 bundles of 100 postcards, for example.

Do I Need to Print Address Labels?

Nope! EDDM simplifies direct mail advertising, so there's less overhead costs to interfere with your profit margin. You don't need to do anything to your mailers other than provide the appropriate EDDM Indicia on your postcard design. We have the necessary files for your artwork; download our free templates or request the right documentation from our staff.

How Do I Get My Mailers to the Local Post Office?

We give you two options. We can send your mailers to you, and you can take them to the post office of your choice. This works best for campaigns that are supposed to be run separately or on different dates. Alternatively, we can ship the mailers to your local post office directly. They will handle delivery, and you don't have to do any extra work.
